Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity (Ksat) Tests
Septic system specifications and design calculations are based upon observed soil characteristics including fluid percolation rate. In most instances, the Onsite Soil Evaluator (OSE) estimates percolation rate dependent on observed soil characteristics and depths to restrictive features (ex. fragipan, impervious rock, water table). In certain situations, when marginal soils limit the design of a septic system, percolation rates are measured in the field using constant head borehole permeameters. As required by Virginia Department of Health (VDH), a data report and water mounding calculations are submitted as part of the design.
